A landscape that delights the eye.
The Wachau, one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Europe – from the Venus of Willendorf to Richard the Lionheart in Dürnstein – is also among the most beautiful. Where wine grows, people feel at home – a principle that is especially tangible in this small wine-growing region.
Visitors marvel at the many different perspectives revealed on walks, rediscover the landscape in every season, and enjoy leisurely moments along the paths between the vineyards. The villages on the left bank of the Danube are known for their archetypal character and their gastronomy, while the right bank beckons with quieter, lesser-known spots and small traditional Heurige. Walks and bike rides build an appetite for a visit to Landhaus Bacher, whose seasonal cuisine reflects the colours and light of the surrounding mountains, forests and vineyards. In winter, calm returns – to the Wachau as well as to the Landhaus, which uses this time for rest and renewal.
